SERENGETI FAMILY SAFARI

12 days and 11 nights exploring the best of Tanzania’s Serengeti.

Begin your family trip in the sprawling city of Arusha. Resting at the foot of Mount Meru, it is known as the safari capital of northern Tanzania.

Then it’s time for the safari to begin. Head to Lake Manyara, where the national park features a magnificent landscape of acacia woodlands, forests, baobab strewn cliffs, algae-streaked hot springs, swamps and the lake itself. Don’t miss the opportunity to see thousands of flamingos on the lake, the renowned tree-climbing lions, and large families of elephants strolling through the forest.

You and your family will head next to Northern Tanzania, for the the Ngorongoro Crater. One of Africa’s most popular safari destinations, surrounded by Tanzania’s highlands. This UNESCO-listed crater is said to be the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Spot the Big Five along with large herds of zebra and wildebeest. Excellent bird watching, trekking, wildlife viewing, mountain biking and a visit to a local Maasai village are all in order.

Up to the Serengeti’s remote Western Corridor, you’ll have front row seats to the Great Migration if visiting in July, with hundreds of thousands of wildebeest and other migratory species thundering through the area’s woodlands and across its plains. Guided walks, horse riding safaris and balloon trips are also on offer.

Finish up your Tanzanian family safari in the rich acacia-dotted plains of the Eastern Serengeti, with an opportunity to visit the world famous Gol Kopjes for the best cheetah viewing in Africa.
