What Should I Do Before and After Botswana?

Posted on January 15th, 2014 by Stephanie Hunt in Safaris: Botswana (articles).

The primary safari destinations in Botswana are only a 2-hour flight from Cape Town, and just across the border from Victoria Falls.  So safaris here combine well with a trip to Victoria Falls in either Zambia or Zimbabwe or a tour around the wineland estates near Cape Town.  If you need a bit of sun and surf after your safari then a beach break in Mozambique or Durban can also tie in well. Or for a different beach experience, consider a lakeside lodge on Lake Malawi.

When Should I Go to Botswana?

Posted on January 15th, 2014 by Stephanie Hunt in Safaris: Botswana (articles).

There is never a bad time to travel in Botswana.  But the right time for you will depend on what you hope to see.

For big game in the Okavango and Chobe areas, the best time is Sept-Oct when the land is dry and the animals are concentrated around water holes and rivers.

The wet season of Dec – April offers other attractions.  Once the rains start the Kalahari turns lush and green, attracting the bigger game.  This is also the best time for bird viewing as all the migrants have arrived to spend the summer.  The Makgadikgadi Pans see the migration of zebra and wildebeest in the early months of the year and in April the flamingos flock to the wetlands.
