Incredible Tanzania

Posted on February 1st, 2017 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

The trip was absolutely, unbelievably amazing! It was so different than anything we have ever done. We have never booked any kind of a tour or package before, but this was such an amazing and rewarding experience! Tanzania is such a beautiful country and people that we met were so wonderful. Booking us with Nomad-Tanzania was such a fantastic experience! Both of our guides, Salvanous and Amos, were so knowledgeable – and patient – with all of our questions and excitement over things that were new to us (there are a lot of pictures to go through…). We saw so many wonderful animals, but also their knowledge of birds, mammals, insects, and reptiles was amazing. I have no idea how they spotted so many interesting things, but they did. They were also very respectful of the wildlife, which we really appreciated. We only saw a few examples of those who were not, but it would have made all of the difference in our experiences if we had been in a group like that. They really made the trip so special for us.

The Nomad camps were incredible!! The staff, the accommodations, the meals, everything was beyond what I ever imagined. And the cake for our anniversary on our last night on safari was quite a surprise and very touching!

Need to go back

Posted on September 3rd, 2014 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Mike,

I’ve made it home, and the entire way back, my mind swung between two thoughts; how utterly wonderful the trip was and trying to figure out how I can make it back next year. Both thoughts involved you..

First, let me say thank you as the trip was wonderful, largely because of the work you did stitching everything together. Not one glitch, not one issue…every transport was on time, every connection got me where I needed to be. When a woman travels alone in Africa, these are important elements and you nailed it! You even entertained my anxiety about rogue volcanoes…

Mike, please accept my heartfelt appreciation and I look forward to doing it again. (I’ve already recommended you and will continue to do so.)

Green safari

Mike,

I have been meaning to connect just to let you know what a terrific trip we had to Africa. Everything went smoothly and every one of the camps you recommended were superb. We had a back room tour of Tubu Tree – amazing what rigor the Botswana camps go through to be green. We also thought Damaraland was a very special place; we knew the dunes would be remarkable and they were, but Damaraland took us by surprise – so scenic and remote.
Thank you so much for your help in setting up this trip, a great adventure. Happy to recommend Wilderness and you to anyone!

Just wanted to write and say we got back from the vacation and that it all went great.  We were very impressed with both game lodges.  They were different had provided a nice variation .  The transfers went very smoothly and was a nice touch on a long trip.

Thank you for all you help and will be pleased to recommend you if any one else is considering Africa.

impressed with Namibia

Posted on December 10th, 2013 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Hi Mike,
I wanted to send a note to thank you.  We had a wonderful time in southern Africa, thanks to you!  As you know, we got back late Wednesday.  I’ve since been away on business, but am now back, so apologies for the delinquency in e-mailing you.  Everything worked brilliantly and we were particularly impressed with Namibia.  By the way, we can now say we have seen “the big 5”, having added white and black rhinos and leopards to our list.  We also saw giraffes, hippos, cheetahs, lions, elephants and the list goes on…  Terrific sightings.
All in all, the perfect trip.  We’re now dreaming about our next trip, probably in 2015..
Thanks again for all your help.

Treated like royalty

Michael: Thank you for putting together a fantastic trip for Pam and I. We were treated royally by all Wilderness staff everywhere we went. We made friends at all the camps and enjoyed the social aspects as much as the animals, not to mention the luxurious indulgence. Botswana was certainly a amazing experience. Continue reading …

Amazing Tanzania

Hi Mike. We just arrived back from our amazing trip to Tanzania with a stay in Zanzibar. We wish to thank you for arranging a great trip and using the very *best* vendors. Everything went without a hitch – even when our flight from the Safari lodge back to Arusha was 2 hours late the Coastal staff personally escorted us on landing in Arusha (with our bags) directly to the plane for the flight to Zanzibar – great service. Sharks and Mountains

Posted on July 15th, 2012 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Hi Mike & Jen,

Steve and I wanted to thank you for organizing an absolutely fabulous trip for us. We had an incredible time.

One of the highlights was, of course, watching the great white sharks. We were very fortunate to witness lots of predatory activity and we watched a very up close pursuit of a shark on a seal. Actually, it was within a couple of feet from the boat and I got to see the shark chomping on the seal under the water. We were also lucky enough to see a full breach a couple hundred yards from the boat. To see an entire 12 foot great white launch itself out of the water with its white belly facing us is something we will never forget. I also braved the shark cage, which wasn’t at all scary. I thought it was amazing to see the sharks swim within an arm’s reach of the cage. Continue reading …

Hi Michael,

The safari went off without a hitch, it was amazing!!! The 3 camps were very different from one another. At Jacana the water was very high, so not a lot of animals but the boat cruises, staff, and monkey and elephant encounters made it worth while. Continue reading …

Hi Michael

All in all it was stupendous! A trip of a lifetime. My daughter turned to me when we were at Mashatu and said she had never done anything this amazing in her life. How cool is that.

Hi Mike,

The trip was fantastic. I hope to return to South Africa someday.

Four Rosmead was excellent +++. Fabulous location and personal service. The rooms were great and breakfasts were topnotch. When I return to Cape Town, I will stay there. I am glad we opted for a City Bowl guest house rather than a waterfront hotel. Continue reading …

Fascinating countries

Posted on October 25th, 2008 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Dear Michael,

Although I have not had the pleasure of meeting you, I wanted to send a note of thanks to you and the others at Safari + Company who were responsible for assisting in the planning and organization of our amazing trip to South Africa and Botswana. Every detail was thought of, with the result that the trip went very smoothly and the people responsible for meeting and guiding us were excellent. We enjoyed our accommodations everywhere and were delighted with our Botswana safaris. So thanks to one and all for what will remain one of our most memorable trips. They are both fascinating countries.

With our thanks,

Namibia gets better each time

Posted on October 22nd, 2008 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Hi Mike and Nigel, Each trip to Namibia gets better than the last. In spite of the fact that my checked bag did not arrive in Windhoek the trip got off to a good start. I enjoy staying at Hilltop and eating breakfast overlooking a valley and enjoying the birds. Wendy Wilson picked me up at the Ongava air strip, it was good to see a familiar face. She and her husband were the managers when I was there three years ago. There was a single female lion that we met several times including with other vehicles. We left to see what else we could see eventually returning to where we saw the lioness. Barnabus our guide stopped the vehicle when he saw her approaching. She started to call softly then sat down twenty feet from our vehicle. Soon after she got up and joined up with her three cubs. No one else was there and we were excited with our experience. Trip was great!

Hi, Mike,

The trip was great! We were very happy with the itinerary, the travel arrangements and the lodging selected. With the exception of a couple of minor air charter delays (a 1+ hour delay out of Livingston and a 1 hour delay from Lunga because the air craft would only accommodate 4 passengers. All of the transfers and rendezvous went very smoothly. Continue reading …

Oh my God!

Posted on September 25th, 2008 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

You know how much I was looking forward to the camps and how excited I was – all I can say is it was a million times better than I expected!!! Meerkats sitting on my head; two three month old lion cubs; elephants within touching distance as I relax in the sala; two adult female lions within touching distance from the vehicle; a pride of 14 lions setting out in the dusk for a night of hunting; a mother leopard playing with a cub 5 feet away from us; the most hospitable, friendly people I have ever met. As you can tell, I could go on for ever! Continue reading …

Magical honeymoon!

Posted on September 9th, 2008 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Dear Michael,

Thanks for the note…we are having to hit the ground running to catch up with all the work we’ve missed but the trip was absolutely magical!

We were met on time and with great care by the Nomad representative upon our arrival in Dar. The Movenpick was just fine, quick nap before our early departure to the Selous the next morning. Again an easy and pleasurable transfer to the airport in the morning. The representative took care of all our paper work and stayed with us until we boarded the plane. The quick flight to the Kiba airstrip was quick and easy. We were met buy our private guide for the next 4 days at the airstrip and off we went. The Sand Rivers was fantastic! The room was very nice. They were a little rushed upon our arrival due to departing guests and a batch of new arrivals so I guess we didn’t get met in the “perfect” Sand Rivers way but we were so excited we didn’t really notice. Impeccable service

Posted on July 18th, 2008 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

We returned three days ago and wanted to send some feedback. It was a wonderful trip – Rovos Rail is quite an experience, impeccable service and comfort. Food is wonderful and there is a wide array of visits, lectures, etc along the way.

Zanzibar was fascinating – Nomads provided excellent service and the guides could not have been better – very knowledgeable with great information and communication skills. We stayed at 236 Hurumzi (formerly Emerson and Green) which is unique and extraordinary – every room different with lots of trappings from the days when it belonged to a sultan. One thing I would mention is the evening meal served on the roof which is billed as something special with entertainment etc. and reservations made days ahead. The meal was very mediocre – not at all special. (We wondered whether we had been spoiled by the meals on Rovos Rail but decided that it was a truly mediocre meal).

Thanks you for all your work on this Michael.

More than we expected, Namibia

Posted on May 25th, 2008 by Mike Haines in Guest Comments.

Hi Mike:

Adelaide (little Ongava manager) told us there were a group of travel agents coming in on Saturday. Should have guessed that one of them would be you.

The whole trip was great. The details are as follows; The Drakensbergs were awesome. Great hiking and excellent accommodation. The Boys Choir was super. A real bonus for us. South Africa needs to do a better job promoting the choir. Very few people have heard of it. Namibia was more that we expected. The topography and colour are absolutely unique. Continue reading …
